Jack Richards employs four different types of drivers, LGV 1 Tramping Drivers, LGV 1 Night Drivers, LGV 1 Day Drivers and LGV 3 Palletways Drivers.
Our drivers are a vital part of the operational side of the business; our front line contact with customers and the general public. So it’s always important for us to find the right people and then keep them with us. We have drivers who have long-service records extending back over 35 years, and would like to see a continuous crop of dedicated Jack Richards & Son drivers coming along to keep the tradition alive.
These jobs are for the traditional road haulage driver. You would have your dedicated own truck, in which you live and work, up and down the length of the country, delivering loads on behalf of our customers. Tramping Drivers at Jack Richards & Son enjoy good rates of pay, drive a less than 3 year old DAF XF 105 or Volvo FH12 and are part of the best team of drivers in the UK. To become one of our dedicated Tramping Drivers you will need to be able to work a least three nights away from home every week, with a sixth shift every other week as and when required.
Our Night Drivers ‘share’ their trucks with Day Driver colleagues. A typical night's work may include trunking a regular load to another Jack Richards & Son depot, or shunting loads between our customers and our depots. Night Drivers have the advantage of getting home each day, but need to be willing to work a sixth shift alternate weeks as and when required.
The counterpart of our Night Drivers, our Day Drivers typically spend their days delivering customers’ goods to destinations within a day's driving of their home depot. These jobs are much sought-after as drivers can be home each night: often these vacancies are normally taken by current Jack Richards & Son drivers who want to transfer from Night or Tramping duties.
Palletways Drivers are employed at our Fakenham depot, driving 18 tonne rigid vehicles collecting and delivering pallets throughout Norfolk’s NR post code. Drivers have to be physically fit, typically doing 20 drops a day, but have the benefits of working set hours in the day and being part of a small specialist team at Jack Richards & Son.
