Green Policy
The Road Haulage industry, by its very nature, has a negative impact upon the environment. Jack Richards and Son see it as part of the company’s social responsibility to minimise this impact as far as possible.
As such, the company only runs vehicle which are less than 4 years old in the main haulage fleet and by the end of 2009 all of these vehicles will be running at the European Community’s most demanding levels of exhaust emission ‘Euro 5’. All of these vehicles have sophisticated exhaust systems, designed to minimize the production of Nitrogen Oxide and Dioxide, whilst also minimizing the release of particles into the environment.
All Jack Richards' drivers are trained to drive smoothly and efficiently to improve fuel consumption, hence reducing emissions whilst also reducing costs. The drivers are also incentivised, by payments of bonuses, to drive economically.
Jack Richards' workshops ensure all vehicles are maintained to the highest standards with checks of tyre pressures, and other key factors which improve fuel efficiency, carried out regularly on a proactive basis.
The company is also actively exploring the use of bio–diesel and bio–diesel mixtures, to further reduce the impact on the environment.
Whilst the truck operation has the most significant impact on the environment, we are also aware of the need to use the most modern techniques to control energy usage within our warehouses and offices. To this end we have successfully utilised light and heat switches which are triggered only by movement, or body heat.
Jack Richards and Son recognise the need for all companies to operate in an environmentally friendly way and will continue to ensure it is at the vanguard of all new initiatives.
